BARANY, Elizabeth Ann – September 24, 1919 – February 20, 2010.

Elizabeth was born in Flint, daughter of John Dominic and Josephine Ann Barany, who were immigrants from Hungary and Slovakia. As a child, she worked hard, caring for flowers and vegetables in the Barany Greenhouse business on the corner of Maryland and Cook. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School and excelled in her studies. After high school, she attended Michigan State College, graduating with a B.A. in English and following that, University of Michigan, where she received her Master of Arts in Education. Elizabeth was a passionate teacher and administrator in the Flint Public Schools in her career of nearly 40 years. After retiring, she continued to instruct student teachers for an additional 7 years. One of her happiest teaching years was spent as an exchange English teacher at Dreux Air Base near Paris, France. Her summers were punctuated with travels to countries in Europe, especially important were visits to Hungary and Slovakia where she became acquainted with her relatives. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret and brother-in-law, Richard Niss. She is survived by her brother, William S. Barany and wife Johanna Louise; her nieces and nephews, Michael Niss, Marcia Danner, Kathryn Whittaker, John Barany, William P. Barany, Bruce Barany and Helen Hansen. Up to her very last moments of life, Elizabeth was an inspiration to all who knew her, sharing wisdom and good humor. She has many neighbors, friends and relatives who will miss her. What a privilege to have known her! A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2010 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 N. Dayton St., Davison, Rev. Fr. George Puraidam M.S.F.S. celebrant. The Mass will be in the chapel to the south of the church. Please share your thoughts with the family at www.allenfuneralhomeinc.com
