He was born in Guam while his Navy father was stationed there following WWII. After graduation from Hastings College in NE he married Judith Moorberg and became a stepfather to Ann and Mark Moorberg. Robert and Judy divorced in 1998 but remained close friends.

Robert had a varied career, holding the position of Vice President at Fleet Bank in CT, FNB in Mobile, C&S Bank in Atlanta. He then joined WWE, working in development, production and marketing. His final position was at Beazley Company in CT as their Director of IT.

For the past 6 years he had assisted with the utmost loving care and devotion to his mother and father, Margaret and Robert DeBord, in the months and years before their deaths.
