Paula Whitehead (Cline) '65

Paula Whitehead Cline, 75, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 2, 2022 in Lexington, leaving a void that will be difficult to fill in the thoroughbred industry. Born in Illinois on September 6, 1947, she was adopted at a very young age by adoring parents who preceded her in death, United States Air Force Major William W. Whitehead and Elizabeth Evans Whitehead.

Paula was lucky enough to travel the world during her youth, graduating from high school in Greece. However, her love for the Bluegrass state was strong, and she returned to attend the University of Kentucky, where she majored in Animal Science and was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority.

She was small but mighty – a passionate horsewoman. During her early days, she was very involved with saddle horses. She was an accomplished rider who enjoyed traveling around Kentucky competing in various shows. Her love for riding led her to Belmont Park in New York and Aiken, South Carolina, where she galloped horses for hall of fame trainer MacKensie Miller. In the late 90’s, Paula acquired RoseHaven Farm where she raised, bred, and boarded thoroughbreds, saddlebreds, and an abundance of litters of jack Russell puppies who were never far from her side. Paula owned and operated RoseHaven Farm for over twenty years. At the time of her death, she was employed at the historic Calumet Farm.

Fall and Spring were her favorite times of year, likely spending her days off at The Thoroughbred Club with friends handicapping races. Paula treated all of her friends like family and was dearly loved by all who knew her. She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons Chad, Lexington, KY, Jon (Mandy) Cline, Cincinnati, OH and grandsons Charlie and Michael “Mikey” Cline.

Please join the family for a celebration of life reception on November 13, 3:00pm-6:00pm at The Thoroughbred Club, 3555 Rice Road, Lexington, KY 40510.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her honor to The Springer School and Center in Cincinnati, OH, or the Old Friends Farm in Georgetown, KY.

Family and friends are encouraged to share memories and leave messages of condolence on Paula’s tribute page.
