MARION -- Cornelia Plowden Stanley, 70, died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, at Heartland Health Care Center of Charleston in Hanahan after an illness.

She was born Nov. 8, 1926, in Marion County, a daughter of the late Thomas and Cornelia Plowden Stanley.

She was a graduate of Marion High School and of Winthrop College.

Miss Stanley was a retired school teacher, having taught in Columbia, Beaufort and Ann Arbor, Mich., schools. She was also with the Defense Department in Labrador, Japan, Turkey and France.

Survivors include a brother, Thomas Stanley of Charlotte, N.C.; and two sisters, Julia Roberts of Mount Pleasant and Mary Eason of Richmond, Va.

A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Smith-Collins Funeral Home of Marion is in charge.
