Wisconsin State Journal (Madison, WI) - July 31, 2011

MADISON - Charles T. Billings died unexpectedly on July 25, 2011.

Chuck was born in Marshfield, Wis. on Dec. 17, 1947. The son of a Master Sergeant in the Air Force, he grew up on military bases in Germany and France, prior to moving back to Wisconsin. He was an active athlete in high school, participating in football, wrestling and his favorite sport, soccer. He received his bachelor's degree from UW-Parkside and then began working for the State of Wisconsin in a variety of positions, concluding his career in the fraud investigation program in the Department of Health Services.

Chuck retired from his work for the state in 2007, which enabled him to spend full time on his primary love and passion, soccer. Chuck has been a mainstay of soccer in Wisconsin since 1968. When he died he was general manager of the Madison 56er's adult soccer program and a member of the National Board of Directors of the National Premier Soccer League. He was inducted into the Wisconsin Soccer Hall of Fame in the year 2000 for his tireless support and promotion of the sport. Chuck also loved to travel, driving many thousands of miles around the country, visiting national parks and historical sites.

Chuck is survived by his mother, Mary "Maisie" Billings; his brothers, James Billings, Roger Billings and Doug Billings; as well as sisters-in-law, Kerry Billings and Patricia McConnell. He is predeceased by his father, Clifford C. Billings; and his sister, Barbara Billings.
