| At his request, no service will be held
for Darrel Kay Nielsen, who died Jan. 31, 1998, at age 73.
Mr. Nielsen was born June 23, 1924, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He graduated
from the University of California at Berkeley and received a master's
degree from the University of Hawaii. He married Jean Watson in 1963. He
taught art and history in Hawaii, Spain and France. He moved to Portland
in 1980 and operated the Dandy Lion Ice Cream Parlor and The Nielsen
Collection Antiques.
Survivors include his wife; son, Christopher W. of Portland; daughter,
Kiri Lee of Portland; sisters, Virginia McCall of Sacramento, Calif., and
Lola Cummings of Pleasanton, Calif.; and brother, Dale of Livermoore,
Calif.
Disposition was by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to
Providence Hospice. Arrangements were by Wilhelm Funeral Home.
