Jared T. Lyon

Jared T. Lyon, 701 East Lincoln Street, former Principal and Superintendent of Hoopeston schools died suddenly this morning at his winter home in Ocean Breeze, Fla. 

A resident of Hoopeston since 1944, he was principal of John Greer High School until 1947 when he was named superintendent of School District No. 4

It was during this time that the new high school was planned and constructed.  He retired from this position in 1960 and with his wife, Esther, spent a year in Germany where he taught school for children whose parents were serving in the armed forces.

Upon his return from Germany, they purchased a mobile home in Ocean Breeze and have spent the winter months there since his retirement.

Survivors are his wife, Esther, a son, Bill and a grandson.
The body will be returned for services and burial.

Funeral Services Planned Friday for Jared T. Lyon

Funeral services for Jared T. Lyon, 66, 701 East Lincoln, will be conducted at 2:p.m. Friday at Wood funeral home.

The Rev. H. Leland Walls will officiate with interment in Floral Hill cemetery.

The former principal and superintendent of Hoopeston schools died at his winter home in Florida at 7:30am Tuesday.

Born July 5, 1902 at Carthage, he was a son of William and Viola (Tiner) Lyon. He married Esther Anderson, Chalmers, Ind, who survives.  Also surviving are a son, William; a grandson , both of Hoopeston, and a brother Orville Lyon, Carthage.

Mr. Lyon came to Hoopeston in 1944 from Bowen and was a member of the United Methodist Church, Star Lodge AF & AM No. 709, and the Hoopeston Rotary Club.

Friends will be received at Wood funeral home from 7 to 9pm Thursday with Masonic Rites to be conducted at 8:30pm.
