Michael E. Larkin '65

(Attended Dreux during the 61/62 school year as a Freshman)

Michael Elwin Larkin

Michael Elwin Larkin, 72, of Reese, died Sunday evening, December 8, 2019 at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. He was born June 14, 1947 in Flint, son of the late Elwin Wayne and Thelma Jane (Lentz) Larkin. Michael graduated from Oscoda Area High School in 1965 and later attended Lake Superior State College for 18 months. He then entered the United States Army in January, 1967 during the heart of the Vietnam conflict. After basic training, Michael was selected for Officer Candidate School, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant (Infantry). He volunteered for Special Forces (Green Berets) and was an A-Team leader with 1st Special Forces Group, seeing action in Southeast Asia including the Republic of Vietnam.

After leaving the Army in 1971, Michael again attended Lake Superior State College in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan. After gaining his bachelor's degree, he then attended and graduated from Cooley Law School in Lansing in 1977. Michael practiced law in Michigan and in Texas for 42 years. He was an avid sportsman, fisherman, and enjoyed hunting upland birds. He especially loved his pets. His greatest achievements and joy were being a father and raising his son.

He was a loving son, father and brother and will be greatly missed by his surviving son, Leighton and his sisters and brother.

The Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 12, 2019 from the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Reese with Fr. Christian Tabares officiating. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m.in the Pine River Cemetery in Standish with full military honors being presented by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Mr. Larkin's family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Liturgy.
