Nancy Hamilton '65
Nancy Carol Hamilton-Kennedy, 64, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2012, at
6:55 p.m. at Mission Hospital in Asheville. Her story of family, friends, music,
laughter and courage serves as the testament of her life's work.
She grew up as a daughter of a U.S. Air Force officer and developed a love of
traveling during her childhood. Nancy got to see many towns and encountered many
faces during her stays in places such as Myrtle Beach, S.C., Goldsboro, Utah,
Germany, France and Japan. Nancy also developed an affinity for the fine arts
and beautiful antiques, which shaped most of her adult life.
Her talents and personality were never more at their peaks than when she
performed for an audience…big or small. Sunday mornings found her entertaining
members of her church with her voice. She honed her skills in productions at
Thalian Hall in Wilmington or performing with the Trier opera in Germany.
Whether she was entertaining her fellow church members or playing Lil' Abner
or relaying the latest story from her research on genealogy, Nancy had a way of
infecting those around her with her laugh and drawing them into the story and
keeping them there until she was done.
Her daughter, Jennifer Kennedy, was her pride and joy. Nancy took every
opportunity she could to support Jennifer's extracurricular activities. Whether
it was dance, cheerleading or track, even on into ECU football, Nancy was right
there cheering on her daughter as she performed in the marching band and their
favorite football team.
Throughout her life, Nancy provided the people around her with the things
they needed most: comfort, laughter, entertainment, and most of all, friendship.
Her story will live on in the lives of people whom she touched and knew. And,
boy, did she ever tell a story.
Nancy also has two surviving siblings, Sylvia Ludlum and David Hamilton.
