Nicholas J. Carroll, Jr. '62
Nicholas Joseph Carroll, Jr., 78, of Valdosta, Georgia, died September 11,
2021, in Valdosta.
He was born in Washington, DC on September 17, 1942, to Nicholas Joseph
Carroll, Sr. and Grace Farrel Carroll.
Nick is survived by his wife, Hanna Carroll, and children, Daniel Carroll and
Ingrid Knight, grandchildren Wyatt Carroll, Margaret Knight and Ryan Knight,
and brother Thomas Carroll.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Grace Carroll, and
sister Mary Lapeyrouse.
Nick lived in Washington, DC, Uruguay, Nicaragua, Columbia and France, where
he graduated from the Dreux American High School. He was an active duty member
of the United States Army for 3 years, attended Nicholls State College and
graduated from Southeastern Louisiana College.
Nick met his future wife, Hanna, while stationed in Germany with the United
States Army Dental Services. They married in Germany, and soon moved to the
United States. They had a loving marriage for 52 years.
He began his career with the Florida Probation and Parole Commission, Broward
County, and retired as a Federal Probation Officer, United States District
Court, Middle District of Georgia.
Nick was an avid collector, almost never missed a garage sale, and enjoyed
welding and refinishing furniture. His friends and family remember him as
outgoing and friendly, a remarkable historian, and full of good cheer.
A memorial service, celebration of life, and a great memorial garage sale is
planned for Spring 2022.
