Susan Nesbitt '65

Susan Katherine Rowley, 70, passed away peacefully in her Orlando home, on June 13, 2018, surrounded by family. Susan's love of life touched people wherever she lived and traveled, and she was blessed in return with life-long friends. She cherished special times with her family, and her passion for entertaining, beading and Duplicate Bridge captured her focus during the last twenty years.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents A. David and Patricia Nesbitt. She is survived by her husband and her best friend of 45 years, Karl Rowley; her children Tom (Amy) Houghtaling and Keli (Scott) Retzlaff; five grandchildren, Matthew Houghtaling, Dani Houghtaling, Duncan Houghtaling, Amilia Retzlaff and Eddy Retzlaff; her siblings Barbara Sumi, David (Kay) Nesbitt, Shawn (Rich) Rider-Schubert and Patrick Nesbitt; her sister-in-law Sarah (Dan) Opperman, as well as extended family and dear friends.

Remembrance gatherings will be planned in Lafayette, California; Midland, Michigan; Cape Coral, Florida; and Orlando, Florida in the coming months. Donor gifts will be used to improve the quality of Duplicate Bridge for new, young and seasoned players through the advancement of best practices. Gifts may be sent to Karl Rowley with a notation "In memory of Susan Katherine Rowley", or to the donor's choice.
